(Thursday, July 02, 2009) - McDonald's has launched its first new burger to its menu since 2001 with the new Angus Third Pounder, the company has announced.
The Angus Third Pounder is made to order with a third-pound of 100 percent Angus beef and fresh ingredients on a toasted bakery-style sesame seed roll. The new line is available in three offerings, including:
* Deluxe: One-third pound 100 percent Angus beef topped with mayonnaise, mustard, tomato slice, leaf lettuce, red onion, dill pickles and American cheese
* Bacon & Cheddar: One-third pound 100 percent Angus beef topped with ketchup, mustard, red onion, dill pickles, three bacon slices and American cheese
* Mushroom & Swiss: One-third pound 100 percent Angus beef topped with mayonnaise, sauteed mushrooms and slices of Swiss cheese
Southern California franchisee Mike Pernecky is credited as the inspiration behind the Angus Third Pounder. He wanted to offer a product for the most serious burger enthusiasts and worked with McDonald's to develop a burger that would "hit the spot." The Angus Third Pounder reinforces McDonald's long-standing commitment to quality, value and satisfying consumers' evolving tastes and needs.
In addition to high-quality Angus beef, it's the fresh produce that sets Angus apart. In fact, McDonald's introduced entirely new ingredients to the menu when it launched Angus, including:
* Rings of red onion
* Full slices of bacon
* Sautéed mushroom
* Natural Swiss cheese
* Bakery-style sesame seed buns
The Angus Third Pounder product launch, in test for two years, is the first new burger item from McDonald's since the Big N' Tasty burger was added to the menu in 2001.

Top 1 Percent of McDonald’s Managers to Receive 2008 Ray Kroc Award
For Their Superior Performance and Achievement
Chicago, Ill. (March 3, 2009) – McDonald’s honored its top restaurant managers today in Chicago
with the 2008 Ray Kroc Award, an annual performance-based award that recognizes the top
performing McDonald’s restaurant managers in the country. This award was established in 1999 to
honor hardworking restaurant managers – those who make Ray Kroc’s, McDonald’s corporate
founder, vision of excellence come to life in restaurants and for customers each day.
A select 139 managers were chosen this year to receive the Ray Kroc Award, an honor that comes
with a cash award, a Ray Kroc award trophy and pin and a trip to Chicago for an awards gala, which
was hosted today by McDonald’s USA President, Don Thompson. The banquet took place in Chicago
at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers.
“We are proud to pay tribute to this select group of managers that play a critical role in the McDonald’s
system,” said Don Thompson, President, McDonald’s USA. “Each of these managers truly raise the
bar in delivering an outstanding restaurant experience for our customers and creating a positive work
environment for their fellow employees. We value their contributions to our team and are proud of all
of their accomplishments that set them apart in our industry.”
Ray Kroc built the McDonald’s business on the belief that greatness can only be achieved through the
dedication and support of a company’s people. The award was named after him based on his
commitment to people and recognizing their contributions to the organization he helped establish.
Each year, this prestigious award is given to the top 1 percent of McDonald’s® U.S. restaurant
managers to recognize their superior performance and achievement.
McDonald’s Owner/Operators and/or regional staff nominate restaurant managers for the Ray Kroc
Award to recognize their hard work, dedication and commitment to McDonald’s. From there, a
selection committee of representatives from McDonald’s Operations, Training and Human Resources
select the top 1 percent of McDonald’s Restaurant Managers for the Ray Kroc Award.
